Concorde – now boarding for corporate events - Wednesday, October 06, 2004 at 10:12

Manchester Airport has teamed up with event organisers, Apex, to launch Concorde as a corporate entertainment venue at the airport. The Concorde Experience is being pitched at the ‘board meeting’, ‘client briefing’, ‘strategy meeting’ end of the market. In other words if you are looking budget – look elsewhere. But if you want to reward high performing staff with something a little out of the ordinary – here is what you can expect.

Concorde is being maintained in a pristine condition at Manchester Airport so the plane you board will be in exactly the same condition it was before its final flight. A champagne reception can be arranged for guests under the delta-shaped wings of the aircraft before they board with individually named boarding passes. Guests would then be greeted on board by a Concorde stewardess and ushered to their Conran designed leather seats. That is as far as the guests will go on Concorde. A lunch, dinner or cocktail reception can be arranged on the 9th floor restaurant of the Radisson SAS Manchester Airport Hotel overlooking the runway. Any conference presentation would be in a specially converted Monarch DC-10 close-by.

Enhancements include an after-dinner or post-lunch presentation from a member of the Concorde flight crew or from a member of the Red Arrows. A visit to Old Trafford football ground is also available as a possible ‘bolt-on’.

Sadly there is no longer a supersonic boom to experience – just the gentle tinkle of coffee cups and the rustle of crispy fivers as a £15,000 facility fee for the use of Concorde changes hands.
