Silverstone Masterplan gains planning approval
Silverstone launched the ‘Silverstone Wing’ last year at their Northamptonshire site. It is the largest modular-styled conference and banqueting facility between London and Birmingham comprising a 100 seater auditorium, 30 breakout rooms, banqueting space for 800 guests and three individual 1200 sq-m ‘white space’ rooms alongside for conferences, displays, exhibitions.
Silverstone is planning to open additional meeting and banqueting space this summer. Looking further ahead, Silverstone’s 20 year Masterplan has also just received outline planning permission from both Aylesbury Vale District Council and South Northamptonshire Council.
The Masterplan for the development of Silverstone will include a new business park, a new technology park and up to three new hotels. There will also be improved leisure and event spaces including a new kart track. The aim of the development is to strengthen Silverstone’s position as the home of the Formula 1 and also its high performance engineering sector.
Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Holdings Ltd, said: “We are delighted with the outcome and approval of this planning application – this is the most important initiative that Silverstone has taken in its 60 year history as the Home of British Motor Racing. This planning will help maintain Silverstone’s position as a leading global centre for sport, leisure, education and technology and retain its position as a world-leading motor sport destination. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank both Aylesbury Vale and South Northamptonshire Councils, for the way in which the two planning authorities have worked together on this application.”
